- : I'll say it again. No one is saying they did it on purpose. Sometimes a

- : that. But if they are so nice & hardworking & outgoing, why did Mark not
- : call his dealers (the ones he was really good friends with, like us

- : ordered a large order from us 5 days before a huge Amiga show in Canada.
- : He needed it shipped that day & RED label. We packed it into several

- : until word got out on the street that they were going under. Oh well,
- : shit happens.

- I can't speak for Mark, but it's a fair question..from my local
- perspective here's a few possibles....
-
- 1- The recall of the loan was absolutely unforeseen. Crash meetings were
- held in a desperate attempt to recapitalize and avoid the
- bankruptcy....very sincere efforts went into this, and it looked for
- a while like they might be succesful. This was some time after the show.
-
- 2- The World of Amiga show was a huge success, and Wonder's wholesale and
- retail activity was (as Craig suggests) clearly brisk. It actually
- seems that it was this flurry of activity that may have drawn the
- banks 'fatal' attention.
-
- 3- As further evidence of the lack of advance warning, rather than
- scheming to shut down and maximize personal gain, WCi was preparing
- to expand, pushing further into ISP, retail, publishing, software
- developing, and other areas.
-
-
- 4- Again ,up until very late it seemed bail out attempts were working.
-
-
- In retrospect, it seem's they may have begun the final 'homestretch
- kick' too soon, and pushed their capitalization to the limit - find a
- surviving Amiga omly dealer that isn't stretched to the limit....Oh,they
- probably tried to get into too many areas at once, as well.
-
- But,and this is a big BUT....with hindsight one may question some WCi
- business decisions, however this does not imply bad faith! In some
- places in the world aggressive (and honest) initiatives are rewarded. In
- Canada we like to stomp all over them.
-
- It's fair to ask, why not now repay the creditors...simple fact is there
- are at least two good reasons...
-
- 1- not legal...under Canadian bankruptcy law, no creditor can have a separate
- arrangement made separately with him. Any attempt to deal preferentially
- with one or another is strictly illegal. There is a pecking order, and
- sadly preference is usually given to 'less exposed' creditors (say,
- holders of 'first' mortgages etc., like the banks.)
-
- 2- not possible...why is no-one asking Escom to repay all of C='s
- debt...old debt...new owners, new chance to provide product and services.
-
- As to the matter of apologies, well cerainly you've got a point, though
- Mark has made certain expressions online through Jason...perhaps he's
- been working so hard to get the show back on the road and recover from
- the shock there just hasn't been opportunity, I don't know.
-
- I truly sympathize with all those involved in this debacle...I don't
- think the bankruptcy benefitted anyone, hopefully including the bank!
- No-one wanted this to happen (except maybe the competition - and there
- hasn't been much of that), and everyone invoved has suffered. To
- characterize anyone as a 'weasel' is patently untrue, as I beleive time
- wil demonstrate.
-
- Craig, I don't know you, and you seem a reasonable enough sort..it's
- early days yet, and I think you'll find that with a little patience
- things will 'clear up' somewhat.
-
-
- My $.02,
- Steve.
